Your documents stay in your own drive
Marked Money holds your books, not your paperwork. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no attachment button. Instead there is a ready-made folder system you copy into your own Google Drive or OneDrive, with naming rules that match how the app works, so any paper is findable from the transaction it supports.
No uploads is a choice, not a gap
The papers behind your money are among the most sensitive documents you own: bank statements, tax returns, medical receipts. An app that stores them becomes a second copy of your financial life, held by someone else. Marked Money’s answer to the receipt question is the same as its answer to bank linking: we don’t take the data in the first place. Your books live in the app; the paper stays with you.
That only works if your own filing is easy, which is why the app ships a filing starter: a small download of empty, named folders you copy into your own Google Drive or OneDrive. You download it inside the app, on Export & Backup or from Settings. It holds no data. The folder names and the naming rules are the product.
Named so your books can find them
Statements and reconciliations are named by closing date: 2026-01-31 - Checking - Statement, with the reconciliation right next to it. In Marked Money, matching to your bank is that reconciliation, so the proof a month tied out sits beside the statement it tied out to.
Receipts lead with the transaction date and payee: EXP - 2026-02-20 - Lowe’s (toilet repair kit). Every transaction in your books carries a date and a payee, so the paper behind it is one search away in your drive, and date-first names sort themselves.
Tax documents file by the tax year they report, not the date they arrive. The K-1 for 2026 that turns up in March 2027 is named 2026 and filed in the 2026 folder, because that is the return it belongs to.
Leaving Quicken with years of attachments
A common worry when switching: Quicken can attach images and PDFs to transactions, and a QIF export is plain text, so attachments do not ride along. Whatever app you move to, they need somewhere real to live.
The move is to save the attachments out of Quicken while you still have it and file them into the starter’s folders under the same naming rules. Your transactions come across through the importer; the papers land in your drive, named so the two still point at each other.
The yearly rhythm
One folder per book, matching your books in the app: yourself, and each business or rental. Inside, one folder per year. Each January you copy the year folder, rename it, and keep going. Statements and receipts accumulate through the year; when the year closes, the printed reports and exports join them, and the whole folder is what your preparer gets.
Permanent records live outside the years: deeds, formation papers, insurance policies, anything that outlives a single year. The starter’s START HERE note carries a simple retention guide. It is organization, not tax advice; confirm your own retention policy with your preparer.
Marked Money splits a loan payment for you and keeps the three parts straight afterwards, so paying down a debt stops looking like spending it.
